Xiaomi releasing own lineup for BJD?
Who is Xiaomi?
For those who don’t know, Xiaomi is actually a well-known brand over in SEA for their cheap and reliable(?) smartphone. They are famous for their nearly 0 profit on smartphone sales strategy sales. They have recently branched out from the smartphone market, starting to target daily life usage item, for example, cooking pot, smart lighting etc. But mostly those are smart-home devices (I.E you can connect to your smartphone can monitor the condition of the item).
Xiaomi + BJD? but how? why?
Investopedia – July 2018
The company generated a bulk of its revenue from lower-margin device sales, and the majority of its profits from its online service business.
After the company having losses on revenue, the CEO decided to expand their sales from not only smartphone but to smart-home devices. And around 2017, they launched a service called MiHouse platform. (no official English translation, this is just my own translation)
MiHouse platform is a platform where
According to this link, there are three different types of BJD on sales, “The Freshie”, “The Lolita” & “The Festive”. The price range from 299RMB to 440RMB (44USD to 64USD). The purchase includes the displayed clothes & the body + the head itself.
The freshie is the basic
The uniform comes with a small badge and a standard blouse + skirt. Pretty basic and simple look. It does also come with the knee socks and a pair of shoes.
The lolita is the ‘
As for the lolita clothes, it is consider one of the best out of three in terms of detail and the quality look. It comes with a pair of boots too! Touché.
Last but not least the festive look little girl. The last girl have the baby looks with a set of santa clothing.
The clothing itself comes with a set of
What’s the selling point of the doll?
Now, the first impression of the doll itself it reminds me of the Azone doll which has a similar series. This particular doll has the height of 30CM, so I would categorize it as a 30CM doll.
Ball Jointed body
Now according to the commerce page, they claims the doll have a movement of left and right for the hand joint.
Front and back movement for the knee joint.
And last but not least up down, left right, front and back three different direction on the tight joint.
Seems like standard joint for a BJD for me.
Their next selling point is this “3D”, realistic look eyes. I am not a professional in doll field but I would say it looks like a glass eyes instead of the normal resin eyes.
Next would be their white skin. Looks pretty standard white skin to me. Nothing special about it.
Next would be their wig. Un honestly speaking I don’t see it as a selling point for a DD owner, but I would have to say, maybe they are marketed towards those who are newbie to this field and trying to appeal to them that you can change the hairstyle according to your liking.
High quality clothing
They claims that all their clothes are hand made and high quality. I would have to admit that the clothes does look high quality but I can’t verify that since I don’t have any in my hand right now.
Who made these?
Now the burning question will be who made those doll?
After a few digging on the China search machine, I found out that Black Ace Technology Company is actually a start-up from 2017, and they focused on developing new product ranging from
BJD used to be very expensive and only those who are affordable can enter this hobby. After one year of research, we managed to cut down the cost of making a BJD and release close to real life looking BJD with affordable price.Mr. Xiao

Now the doll is just being released few weeks back but this particular doll has become one of the hottest topic in China/Taiwan BJD field. I would consider the review as mixed. Let’s take a look at the official product review page.
Bought this doll for my daughter as Christmas present, she’s very happy when she opened the present and saying ‘This doll is very cute!’. The quality of the item itself has exced my expectation.a**i – Reviewer from the page
The quality is of the doll is superb!! Totally exceed my expectation. The cuteness exploded. I would definitely buy more accessories for this doll. Is there any community for this brand of doll yet?Miss Ma* – Reviewer from the page.
From what I can see, there is so far 50 reviews on the page itself. All of them giving 5 stars review. They are all satisfied with it and surprised by the quality. However, I would have to say that from what I can see, my guess is, most of them are not doll owner. The bought it cause it is cute and cheap. There is also some negative review, but they still give 5 stars. I wonder why.
Now, on the other side of the coin. A lot of BJD owner over in China actually disapprove of the product. Why? Cause for them, vinyl skin + ball joined frame doll doesn’t mean it is a real BJD. This is actually a hard topic to touch on, but I will keep it easy. Different people have a different view on what defines BJD. Some think that as long as there’s an inner frame with ball jointed arms, and leg they will consider them as a BJD, while others think that for BJD it must be made from vinyl, string pulled inner frame and ball jointed.
All a doll needs to be a BJD are two things. True ball and socket joints and an internal form of tension – either a skeleton, or string.Prof. Darren – Professor of Anthropology and Theater History, Yamanashi Gakuin University.
The definition of a BJD is a different topic in their own and I wouldn’t

So in conclusion,
For me, I would say maybe they shouldn’t promote it as a BJD itself, and just as a doll as a whole. People might start to catch on to their product if the quality is there and bring them into the scene slowly. But from what I can see from the pictures floating around the internet, I have to say, I have a mixed feeling toward it. The quality is questionable, but the presentation and overall feels gave me a high-quality vibe. Maybe I should trust my
